Sen. Daley responds to governor’s State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Kevin Daley, R-Lum, issued the following statement Wednesday after hearing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer deliver her 2025 State of the State address at the Michigan Capitol:

“Sometimes I wonder if the governor is living in the same state as the rest of us. Michigan continues to fall behind in nearly every national metric under her leadership — 46th for unemployment rate, 39th for job growth, 40th for per capita income, 40th for road quality, 41st for preventing violent crime and 43rd for fourth grade reading. Meanwhile, she dreams up more government programs, floats ideas for higher taxes and wants to spend more and more. State spending has grown over 40% since she took over the governor’s mansion, and we can no longer afford to stay on this reckless course.

“House Republicans have put forward a realistic, sustainable plan to finally repair those roads she promised to fix more than six years ago without raising taxes. These are the kinds of solutions Michigan needs. We must cut back on government waste and focus taxpayer dollars on taxpayer priorities. It’s time for the governor to stop shelling out millions of tax dollars to the world’s largest corporations and work with the Legislature to finally provide meaningful tax relief to hardworking Michiganders struggling to make ends meet.”
